✔️ How to ask and answer “Where are you going?”
✔️ How to use “去 (qù)” with places and actions
✔️ Key sentence pattern: 去 + place + action
✔️ must-know places and common activities in Chinese
✨ Let’s Begin
Today’s lesson is all about one of the most useful verbs in daily conversation: 去 (qù) — to go!
We’ll start by learning how to ask someone where they’re going:
你去哪儿?
nǐ qù nǎr
→ Where are you going?
Then we’ll learn how to answer in different ways:
- Just saying where you’re going
- Just saying what you’re going to do
- Saying both — where and why!
And we’ll build upon it using “想(xiǎng)” (want to) and “要(yào)” (going to) with action verbs and locations.
Let’s break it down step-by-step. 😉
💬Step 1: 去 + Place
Use this to say where you’re going.

⚠️ Don’t Say “去家” ❌
In Chinese, we don’t say “去家 (qù jiā)” to mean “go home”!
Instead, we must use: 回家 (huí jiā).
🧠 Why?
The word 回 (huí) means “to return”.
Home is not just a destination you go to — it’s a place you return to.
👉 That’s why “go home” in Chinese is:
回家 (huí jiā) = to return home
✅ Correct:
我要回家。
wǒ yào huíjiā
→ I’m going home. ✅
❌ Incorrect:
我要去家。
wǒ yào qù jiā
→ ❌ This sounds unnatural and is grammatically incorrect in Chinese.
